Stacey Adams of Sacramento Earns Degree from George Fox University

Stacey Adams of Sacramento was among a group of more than 200 students who received a diploma at George Fox University's midyear commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. Adams earned a bachelor of arts in journalism degree from the Newberg, Ore.-based university.

About 145 students received bachelor's degrees after completing study in one of George Fox's 41 undergraduate majors or its adult degree programs. Another 65 students received a master's degree or a doctorate after completing study in one of the university's graduate programs or in its seminary.

Jay Mathisen, the assistant superintendent of human resources and strategic planning with Bend-La Pine Schools, spoke at the ceremony. He is an alumnus of George Fox who, while the principal at La Pine High School in 2011, was selected as the High School Principal of the Year by the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators. The ceremony took place in Miller Gymnasium in the Wheeler Sports Center on the school's Newberg, Ore., campus.

George Fox University is ranked by Forbes among the top Christian universities in the country and is a Christian college classified by U.S. News & World Report as a first-tier regional university. More than 3,700 students attend classes on the university's campus in Newberg, Ore., and at teaching centers in Portland, Salem and Redmond, Ore. George Fox offers bachelor's degrees in more than 40 majors, degree-completion programs for working adults, six seminary degrees, and 11 master's and doctoral degrees.
